Classes

Hilde teaches classes at all levels, from beginner to professional, so you can be sure to find a level that suits you.

Classes consist of a gentle warm up, technique, combinations and choreography, before a relaxing stretch at the end. (Please note that Beginner 1 and Advanced technique don't include choreographies).

Please contact Hilde to discuss your level before signing up. And please keep in mind that it is recommended to go down one level when beginning to study with a new teacher, as all teachers focus on different things, and have different teaching styles.

What to wear:
Tights, a fitted top, a scarf to tie around the hips and nice warm socks.
There is no need to have a bare midriff, if that isn't comfortable for you.

Beginner 1

This class is for the absolute beginner. It is also perfect for students who have danced earlier, but want to refresh their basics.
We will work with basic movements and steps, posture, muscle and body awareness, and put the movements into small combinations.

Lots of fun and laughter guaranteed!

Beginner 2

This class builds on Beginner 1. You must have attended Beginner 1 with Hilde or another teacher to take this class.
We will develop the basic skills from Beginner 1, and layer the movements. We will work with small combinations of steps and learn a fun choreography. Perfect for showing off to friends and family what you have learned in belly dance class!

Intermediate 1

Saidi
In this class, we will work with Saidi, which is Egyptian folklore. The Egyptians love, love, love their Saidi music and dance, and as a belly dancer, you get lots of points from an Egyptian audience if you know how to dance to their beloved Saidi music. It shows them that you are a skilled dancer, who understands and appreciates their music and culture.
And let’s not forget; Saidi is FUN!
We will continue to work on oriental technique, but also on Saidi technique, cane work, combinations and a choreography.

Intermediate 2

Oriental / veil
In Egypt, when the dancer enters the stage, she usually holds a beautiful veil, to make a stronger and more visual entrance statement. The veil makes her really fill the stage!
We will work on oriental technique and veil technique, and learn a fun choreography featuring veil work, interpretation of the lyrics of the song and a little drum solo. The perfect routine for a performance!

Advanced Technique

In this up-tempo class, you’ll get the heart pumping! We work on advanced techniques, layering, variations and of course, spectacular shimmies!
The class is held at a high tempo, so this is the perfect alternative to working out at the gym!
This fun class is suitable for advanced, semi-professional and professional dancers.

Advanced Choreography

We work on a new choreography each term. These are advanced choreographies, perfect for professional performances, whether at parties, corporate events or belly dance festivals around the world.
Each choreography is made with authenticity and musicality in mind, and will be sure to please and impress Arab audiences. And of course, Australian audiences as well!
The choreographies will alter between solo and group choreographies, Egyptian Raqs Sharqi (madjensi, pop, classical) and folklore, Khaligi and North African folklore styles.
This class is suitable for advanced, semi-professional and professional dancers.
(We will not work on technique in this class. If you want or need technique training as well, sign up for the advanced technique class in addition to the choreography class.)
