Algerian Fantasy

This choreography is made of different Algerian folkloric steps put together with a cool Rai song. While the steps are authentically Algerian, they come from different parts of the country and strictly speaking they are danced to different kinds of music. Kabylia/Zwawi, Chaoui, Rai and Shaabi are all mixed up into one choreography. I suppose this is my one and only fusion piece…
I was inspired to make this choreography after I had visited Algeria and taken classes with the folkloric ballet in Waharan. They did a ‘hip hop-y’ version of this and I thought “Why not? I’ll put my spin on this, because I LOOOOOVE the music!”
